Global biosecurity can only be achieved when standards are adaptable across regions. Our work in Jordan shows how strong safeguards can empower scientific progress while keeping communities safe.

Dr. Nisreen AL-Hmoud is a regional leader in biosafety, biosecurity, and infectious disease risk management, serving as Director of the Bio-Safety & Bio-Security Centre at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) in Jordan. With over two decades of experience, she has played a pivotal role in strengthening national and regional biorisk management systems, building laboratory capacity, and advancing biosecurity policy across the Middle East.

Dr. AL-Hmoud’s work has been instrumental in establishing training, certification, and risk assessment frameworks that support both research excellence and responsible innovation. She has represented Jordan and the region in numerous international partnerships and technical working groups, contributing to global efforts to harmonize biosafety and biosecurity practices.

Within the IBBIS Technical Consortium, Dr. AL-Hmoud brings extensive expertise in regional implementation and workforce development, ensuring that emerging DNA synthesis screening standards are practical, inclusive, and adaptable to diverse institutional and regulatory contexts.
