IBBIS Signs INHR Recommendations on AIxBIO Risks

Geneva, December 1st 2025

The International Biosecurity and Biosafety Initiative for Science (IBBIS) has endorsed new international recommendations to governments on mitigating risks at the intersection of artificial intelligence and the life sciences (AIxBio). This endorsement aligns with IBBIS’s mission to reduce misuse of emerging biotechnologies through tools like DNA synthesis screening.

Developed over two years by Geneva-based NGO INHR, alongside partners including Tianjin University and Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security, the recommendations draw from experts across China, Russia, India, the US, and Europe. They aim to enhance government regulation of AI-enabled biological threats in synthetic biology labs and beyond, with presentation planned at a BWC side event in Geneva.
