On November 11, 2024, the International Biosecurity and Biosafety Initiative for Science (IBBIS) took the stage at the
Paris Peace Forum as part of the “Tech-Driven Solutions for a Fairer World” panel.
This year’s forum focused on the theme
Building A Functioning Global Order, bringing together changemakers to discuss how innovation can drive equity, fairness, and sustainability on a global scale.
Mayra shared insights on the
Common Mechanism and IBBIS’s remarkable progress in ensuring the safe and responsible development of bioscience and biotechnology. The discussion highlighted IBBIS’s impactful achievements since joining the Scale-up Program (SCUP), including its official launch at the Munich Security Conference, the launch of its innovative screening tool, and collaborative efforts to address global biosecurity challenges in the biotechnology industry sector.
The panel featured an outstanding lineup of experts and innovators:
- Lene Wetteland (Norwegian Helsinki Committee)
- Mercedes de los Santos (Open Data Charter)
- Theodore Caponis (Siren Analytics)
- Mariana Carrillo (GIZ)
The session was expertly moderated by Hilde Hardeman and John Frank, who guided the conversation to highlight actionable solutions for leveraging technology to address pressing global challenges.
IBBIS also showcased its work through a poster presentation in the exhibition hall alongside other SCUP projects. This milestone marked the culmination of IBBIS’s participation in the 2023/2024 SCUP Program, celebrating a year of mentorship supported by the Paris Peace Forum team and dedicated mentors, John Frank and Magda Robalo. Through our participation in the SCUP program, we gained essential support and the possibility to share our expertise, enabling us to connect with diverse stakeholders and safeguard bioscience worldwide.
Thank you to the Paris Peace Forum for this incredible platform to foster collaboration.
