In the Central African region, we are laying the foundations for a strong and responsible biotechnology future. Common synthetic DNA screening standards provide the tools we need to grow safely, collaborate internationally, and contribute to global biosecurity.
Dieudonné Nyamaifofe is an Assistant Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Biology at the Université Officielle de Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. His academic and research work focuses on microbial-based therapies, pathogen genomics, biotechnology education, and the development of biosafety- and biosecurity-informed biosciences in Central Africa.
As Interim Vice-President of the Central Africa Chapter of the African Society for Synthetic Biology (ASSB), he plays a key role in strengthening the regional synthetic biology ecosystem: expanding training, research networks, and policy engagement across the DRC and neighbouring countries. Through his work, he also supports capacity building in molecular biology, genome technologies, bioinformatics and sustainable biotechnology applications, while also advancing dialogue on biosafety, biosecurity, and equitable access to emerging biotechnologies in African contexts.
Dieudonné contributes to youth and community outreach initiatives aimed at building scientific literacy and preparing the next generation of African bioscience innovators to engage safely and responsibly with rapidly evolving biological engineering tools.
