As biotechnology becomes more central to national STI strategies, governance must be anticipatory and internationally connected. Shared standards provide policymakers with a practical foundation to enable innovation while managing emerging risks.
Nataporn Chanvarasuth is a policy specialist at Thailand’s Office of National Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO), the central strategic body responsible for shaping Thailand’s national STI agenda and coordinating research, innovation, and advanced-technology policy across government. Her work supports the development of forward-looking governance frameworks that enable emerging technologies (including biotechnology and synthetic biology) to contribute to national competitiveness, resilience, and sustainable development.
At NXPO, Nataporn contributes to long-term STI strategy, regulatory coherence, and international alignment, helping ensure that Thailand’s innovation ecosystem evolves in step with global scientific and policy developments. She brings a strong systems perspective on how international standards, risk governance mechanisms, and cross-border cooperation can be integrated into national innovation policy, supporting responsible technology deployment while safeguarding public trust and security.
