Dr. Suryesh Kumar Namdeo is a Senior Research Analyst at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, where he leads policy research, training and engagement initiatives in the domains of biosecurity and science diplomacy. He is a former Fellow of the Asia Centre for Health Security and a member of the Indian National Young Academy of Science (INYAS). He leads the Bio-responsibility Future Leaders Programme (BFLP), an initiative under the Bio-responsibility Project at the Indian Institute of Science. The programme is designed to train, upskill, and empower early and mid-career professionals to address critical policy challenges in biosecurity, biosafety, and bioethics in an integrated and holistic manner.

Previously, he served as the Science and Technology Consultant for the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) at the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, Geneva, where he contributed to multilateral disarmament and international security efforts. His areas of expertise encompass biosafety, biosecurity, and international biogovernance, with a particular focus on rapidly evolving and intersectional domains such as synthetic biology and the artificial intelligence–biology interface.

Biotechnology innovation is inherently global, and so are the risks. Harmonizing sequence-screening standards in a manner that is equitable and representative of diverse stakeholders ensures that scientific collaboration can flourish while maintaining a consistent and reliable foundation for biosecurity across regions.
