Professor Weiwen Zhang is one of China’s foremost leaders in synthetic and systems biology, recognized internationally for his contributions to advancing metabolic engineering, microbial biotechnology, and sustainable biomanufacturing. As Baiyang Chair Professor and Director at Tianjin University, he heads pioneering research that bridges fundamental science and industrial application, helping to strengthen China’s role in the global biotechnology and biosecurity landscape.

Professor Zhang’s work spans scientific innovation, international collaboration, and biosecurity advocacy.
