Global Biofoundary Alliance annual meeting
From 10-11 October 2024, IBBIS team members participated in the annual meeting of the Global Biofoundary Alliance in Daejeon, Republic of Korea.

On 10 October, Executive Director, Piers Millett, delivered an invited talk on the importance of DNA synthesis screening, exploring the value of proactive engagement to help shape oversight arrangements, obligations and guidance provided by recent policies and standards released by the United States, United Kingdom, and International Standards Organization. Dr Millett, also described existing tools and resources, including the Common Mechanism, which help biofoundaries implement customer and order screening.

On 11 October, Common Mechanism Technical Lead, Tessa Alexanian, led a workshop on the practicalities of screening, including an interactive customer screening game. Participants were given the opportunity to role play as both customers of, and decision makers at, a fictitious biofoundry. The game highlights the complexity of establishing customer legitimacy and the need for a more structured approach to gathering information which can help informed decision making.
